AUGUST IS A “SIZZLING” MONTH OF TRAINING

Matenadaran prioritizes independence in restoration and aims to become independent from the international market. To achieve this, the organization has initiated activities to explore new methods for producing Armenian recovery papers and their applicability.

Under the EU4CULTURE program funded by the European Union, with the Goethe Institute as the leading partner, Gayane Eliazyan, head of the restoration department, and senior restorers Artavazd Ayvazyan and Artur Petrosyan visited Berlin to learn about handmade paper production from Gangolf Ulbricht, a renowned specialist in Japanese restoration paper.

Furthermore, Lilit Bachachyan, a senior restorer at Matenadaran, has been selected to participate in the “International Course on Japanese Paper Restoration 2024” program at the Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties. She is one of the ten individuals selected from 300 participants in the competition.
