Matenadaran hosted the presentation of the critical edition of Aristotle’s Metaphysics, translated into Classical Armenian by the distinguished seventeenth-century scholar Stepanos Lehatsi.
The Metaphysics, known in Armenian as Girk Bnatsantsakanats, is a foundational work of philosophy and epistemology. Lehatsi translated it from the accurate Latin version produced by Bessarion, a Greek archbishop who later became a cardinal of the Roman Church and was among the forerunners of the Renaissance.
The critical edition was prepared by Alexander Kananyan, a member of Matenadaran’s Department of Translated Literature. The volume was edited by Gohar Muradyan, Doctor of Philology.
The presentation took place as part of the Fifth International Conference, “Text and Interpretation: Issues in the Interpretation of Ancient and Medieval Texts.”
The book was published with the support of JTI Armenia.
