- ARA KHZMALYAN, DIRECTOR OF THE MATENADARAN, HAS BEEN ELECTED A MEMBER OF THE ”ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONALE DE BIBLIOPHILIE (AIB)’
The decision was made at a meeting of the Association’s Board held in Geneva in September 2026. The Director of the Matenadaran was officially informed of his election in a letter from the Association’s Secretary-General, Louise Amazan, Head of the Rare Books Department at the National Library of France. The newly built manuscript repository and archives have been inaugurated at Bzommar Monastery. This significant event marks an important milestone in the development of scientific and cultural cooperation between the Mesrop Mashtots Matenadaran and Bzommar Monastery. The opening ceremony was presided over by His Beatitude Raphaël Bedros XXI Minassian, Armenian Catholic Catholicos-Patriarch of Cilicia. From October 15 to 25, as part of the “Armenian Cultural Days” events, Yvette Tajarian, Head of Matenadaran’s Museum, travelled to Germany at the invitation of the Armenian community of Baden-Württemberg and the Sevrugian Foundation. At the university, the delegation was welcomed by Father Fadi Kmeid, Head of the Library, who arranged a special tour introducing the work of the restoration and digitization departments. Accompanied by Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Delegate of Armenia to UNESCO, the distinguished guest toured Matenadaran’s museum, viewed exceptional examples of Armenian manuscript heritage, and visited the Restoration Department and the laboratories dedicated to the restoration and study of Arabic-script manuscripts.
