Damian Elsig, the Director of the Swiss National Library, provided an overview of the institution’s history, main areas of activity, and upcoming reform initiatives.
Ara Khzmalyan, the Director of Matenadaran, outlined the international programs and activities of Matenadaran and proposed that the Swiss National Library participate in the Yerevan Declaration on Global Cooperation for the Preservation of Written Heritage.
During the meeting, potential avenues for collaboration between the two institutions were discussed. Ara Khzmalyan extended a formal invitation to her Swiss counterpart to participate in the international seminar “The Faces of Memory,” scheduled to be held in Yerevan in 2027.
At the conclusion of the discussions, a guided tour of the Swiss National Library was organised for the Matenadaran delegation.
While in Bern, the delegation from Matenadaran also visited the newly inaugurated Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Switzerland, where they familiarised themselves with the embassy’s operations and premises.
Hasmik Tolmajyan, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Swiss Confederation, facilitated the visit to the Swiss National Library.
It is noteworthy that the visit of the Matenadaran delegation to Switzerland was conducted under the auspices of Zover Construction Company.
