THE TWO-DAY INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP “ARMENIA AND ARMENIANS IN THE GLOBAL MIDDLE AGES: TEXTS AND MANUSCRIPTS” OCCURRED AT MATENADARAN

The workshop is a collaborative effort between Matenadaran and the European Scientific Research Council under the project “Armenia as a Tie: Connections and Cultural Relations in Medieval Eurasia, IX-XIV Centuries.”

A welcome message from Matenadaran’s Director, Ara Khzmalyan, highlighted the significant role of Italian educational and cultural institutions in advancing Armenian studies for over three centuries.

Matenadaran aims to bridge and unite Armenological centres and appreciates the ongoing research of Armenian studies, particularly medieval studies, at scientific and educational institutions in Italy. The Armen project at the University of Florence, hosted at Matenadaran, was significant.

Vahe Torosyan, the deputy director for scientific affairs at Matenadaran, chaired the opening ceremony. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to the Republic of Armenia, Alfonso Di Rizzo, delivered a welcome speech at the ceremony.

The workshop featured thematic speeches by scholars from the University of Florence, the University of Cambridge, the French National Research Center, the Moscow Higher School of Economics, and Matenadaran.

Interactive discussions in a question-and-answer format followed the presentations.
