Helen Dadayan-Parnakyan, the donor of the “Charsanjak Gospel”, along with her daughter, Roksan Makasjian, and the teachers from The Genocide Education Project, which she coordinates, recently visited Matenadaran.
Roksan Makasjian facilitates annual visits to Armenia for American teachers, enabling them to learn efficacious methods for teaching the topic of genocide and incorporating it into their curricula at various American educational institutions.
During their visit, the delegation attended a workshop at Matenadaran, where they learned about the institution’s history, viewed its manuscript collections, and watched a video presentation. They also toured the museum halls, exploring permanent and temporary exhibitions.
In recognition of the donor, the Gospels of Charsanjak and Zeytun were specially presented after taking out from the Matenadaran vault.
The American teachers had the opportunity to learn about restoration technologies and witness the restoration process at the Manuscript Restoration Department of Matenadaran.
Additionally, they visited the “Art of Illuminating” miniature studio, where they participated in a master class and created small souvenirs with Armenian calligraphy.
To conclude the visit, the donor, Helen Dadayan-Parnakyan, and the guests met with the director of Matenadaran, Ara Khzmalyan, to discuss potential future cooperation opportunities.
