THE INTERNATIONAL ARMENOLOGICAL CONGRESS HAS COMMENCED TODAY AT MASHTOTS MATENADARAN

The International Armenological Congress has commenced today at Mashtots Matenadaran. The event will run from July 19th to July 22nd in the Matenadaran, Vayots Dzor, and Syunik regions.

Prominent Armenologists and medievalists have travelled to Armenia from 16 different countries. Representatives from spiritual manuscript centres in Antilias, Bzommar, Venice, Vienna, and Jerusalem, as well as heads and representatives from Armenology departments at renowned universities and scientific centres such as Oxford, Harvard, Bologna, Geneva, Sorbonne, and Hamburg, are in attendance.

At the opening ceremony, the director of Matenadaran, Ara Khzmalyan, highlighted the significance of the Congress as a platform for the development and popularization of Armenian studies.

Zhanna Andreasyan, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, emphasized the Congress’s importance in shaping state policy. The minister noted that the world problems of Armenian studies centres are more than modern, and there is a need to define new target directions for developing the field. Zhanna Andreasyan presented the strategy and priorities of the RA government in the field of science.

The European Union’s Ambassador to Armenia, Vasilis Maragos, also delivered a welcome speech.

Sargis Hayotsyan, the Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, presented the science-related reforms.

A question-and-answer session followed, during which the minister of MESCS and the president of the HESC answered the participants’ questions.
