VISIT TO INDIA

Senior researchers from the Department of Oriental Studies at Matenadaran, PhD in Philology Haykaz Gevorgyan, and PhD in History Fatemi Seyedehnasim, were sent to the Republic of India with funding from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and support from Matenadaran. The primary purpose of their trip was to visit the K. R. Cama Oriental Institute in Mumbai to study Persian manuscripts housed there. While in India, they also visited the Central Institute of Classical Tamil and the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai (formerly known as Madras). During their visit, they met Director R. Chandrasekaran and the scientific staff at the Central Institute of Classical Tamil. The objective of their visit to the state of Tamil Nadu was to explore opportunities for collaboration in the study of Tamil manuscripts written on palm leaves, which are kept in the foreign language fund of Matenadaran.
