Matenadaran Publishing has released ”A Catalogue of Armenian Manuscripts Sold by London Auction Houses” by the Very Reverend Father Nerses (Vrej) Nersessian. For the first time, the catalogue brings together descriptions of Armenian manuscripts sold through London’s leading auction houses.
The publication is of exceptional value for the study of Armenian manuscripts. It represents the culmination of more than four decades of research, documenting over 200 Armenian manuscripts and manuscript fragments offered for sale between 1974 and 2016 by the renowned auction houses Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Bonhams, and Sam Fogg.
The volume also stands as a testament to the lifelong dedication of the Very Reverend Father Nerses (Vrej) Nersessian, whose nearly forty years of work in researching and documenting Armenian manuscripts circulated through international auctions has made this important aspect of Armenia’s written heritage more accessible to the scholarly community.
The catalogue was published with the support of the Ararat-Eskijian Museum-Research Center, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Vatche and Arline Sarkoyan.
