The planting of the first plane tree beside the statue of Mesrop Mashtots marked the launch of a new park adjacent to Matenadaran. The initiative brings together the preservation of cultural and natural heritage.
Opening remarks were delivered by Matenadaran Director Ara Khzmalyan, Secretary General of Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Davit Karapetyan, Executive Director of the Armenia Tree Project Charitable Foundation Ara-Paul Barsam, and Chairman of the Management Board of IDBank Mher Abrahamyan.
“The first plane tree marks the beginning of our future park and symbolizes our responsibility to preserve the world we have inherited and pass it on to generations to come,” said Ara Khzmalyan.
The day continued with the opening of the exhibition “MEA CULPA: Inherited and Inheriting World,” held as part of the COP17 programme. Medieval manuscript illuminations and Valentin Podpomogov’s painting Mea Culpa invite reflection on the relationship between humanity and nature, and on the world we will leave to future generations.
The exhibition was presented by Ivette Tajaryan, Head of the Matenadaran Museum. The event featured a musical performance by Dialog Quintet.
