ANNA OHANJANYAN, A SENIOR RESEARCHER AT MATENADARAN, PARTICIPATED IN THE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP

Anna Ohanjanyan, a senior researcher at Matenadaran, participated in the international workshop titled “The Nicene and Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creeds: Tensions, Rapprochements, Effects,” held in Oxford. It was organized by the Oxford Center for Religion and Culture, Regent’s Park College, the Fondazione per le Scienze Religiose, Bologna, and Maison Française d’Oxford. The workshop was dedicated to the 17th anniversary of the promulgation of the Nicene Creed. It aimed to discuss the tensions, developments, and reception of the Nicene and Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creeds in the past and present. High-ranking clergymen, famous theologians, and textual scholars were present.

Anna Ohanjanyan presented a paper entitled “The Armenian Version of the Nicene Anathema as a Polemical Tool in the Age of Confessions (17th–18th cc.).” The paper discussed the issues related to the text of the Nicene Anathema at the end of the liturgical version of the Nicene Creed recited in the Armenian Apostolic Church and the polemical function it acquired in the inter-confessional relations in the early modern period.
