“ANNUNCIATION MANUSCRIPTS: THE SACRED TREASURY OF THE MATENADARAN” THE NEW EXHIBITION FOCUSES ON THE ICONOGRAPHY OF THE EVANGELISTS AND THE THEME OF CHRISTMAS

It features exclusive manuscripts that enhance the traditions of Armenian miniature art. For the first time, visitors can view exclusive parchment manuscripts from the 11th century. Attendees can explore the unique symbolism associated with the evangelists. The Christmas section of the exhibition will be open until January 13.

PARTICIPANTS IN MATENADARAN’S EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS CONTINUE TO PRESENT INTRIGUING IDEAS. A YEAR AGO, THE JUNIOR GROUP OF “THE ART OF ILLUMINATING” STUDIO SUBMITTED AN AMBITIOUS INITIATIVE TO CREATE AN ILLUSTRATED MANUSCRIPT ALBUM TITLED “CREATION OF THE WORLD.”

Children aged five to ten implemented this project, crafting the design, sewing the pages, and producing the images and text by hand. This work showcases the children’s boundless imagination and creativity. They developed the manuscript picture book while studying Armenian miniatures. The album “Creation of the World” will soon be displayed at the upcoming exhibition

During the visit, Ara Khzmalyan, the director of Matenadaran, presented the outcomes of the International Congress of Armenian Studies held at Matenadaran in July 2024. The discussions focused on the prospects for cooperation between the two institutions, including opportunities for exchanging specialists, joint research projects, and the potential for Matenadaran students to conduct scientific internships.
