The workshop Linguistic and Cultural Interconnections in Armenian Medical Manuscripts, organized within the framework of the “Program for the Advancement of Women Leaders 2024” and in connection with the project “Linguistic Knowledge: Multilingualism or Plurilingualism? – A Sociolinguistic Study of 16th–18th Century Armenian Pharmacopoeias and Medical Texts”, brought together scholars to examine a range of topics related to the translation, transmission, and adaptation of medical knowledge in the Armenian manuscript tradition. Presentations addressed the cultural and linguistic dimensions of knowledge transfer in Armenian medical manuscripts, the transmission routes of this knowledge across time and space, the source material informing the medical writings of the 15th-century physician AmirdovlatAmasiatsi, the process of back-translation in medieval Hippiatric literature, the practical use of Armeno-Turkish medical texts, and the intersections between Islamic and Armenian medical textual traditions.
