AS PART OF THE ARMENIAN-FRENCH COOPERATION, RESEARCH-PRACTICAL COURSES ON PHOTO RESTORATION ARE CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE AT MATENADARAN

Under the agreement between Director Ara Khzmalyan and Charles Personnaz, Director of the National Heritage Institute, photo restoration specialists have come to Armenia to conduct master classes for curators and restorers at Matenadaran. They are using an archival collection as a case study to demonstrate how to preserve old photographs. It includes discussing the historical development of photographic techniques, the main typology of photos, how to identify old and modern materials, the key mechanisms that cause distortion, and basic preservation methods.

It is worth noting that Matenadaran houses not only manuscripts and archival treasures but also unique collections of photographs. These collections were showcased to the public in exhibitions titled “Spiritual Things, Eternal Images” and “The Photographic Treasury of the Matenadaran.”

The initiation of meritorious Armenian-French cooperation was made possible by the active involvement of Hasmik Tolmajyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Switzerland.
