Chères et chers collègues,
Le Comité de l’AIEA a appris que l’actuel directeur du Matenadaran, Dr Vahan Ter-Ghevondian, est parvenu au terme de son mandat, et que le directeur adjoint, Dr Karèn Matévosian, a provisoirement été nommé à ce poste jusqu’aux prochaines élections.
Par cette lettre, nous souhaitons exprimer notre profonde estime et notre vive reconnaissance au Dr Ter-Ghévondian. Sous sa direction, des travaux de recherche et une activité culturelle extrêmement importants ont vu le jour au Matenadaran, ainsi que de nombreuses publications, des conférences, colloques et ateliers de travail, des expositions et autres coopérations fructueuses avec diverses institutions internationales, y compris avec notre Association. Il nous avait permis d’apprécier la richesse des projets en cours lors de la Distinguished Lecture qu’il avait présentée à la dernière conférence générale de l’AIEA en 2021 ; vous pourrez en lire le texte dans le Newsletter 57 de l’AIEA que vous allez recevoir sous peu.
Nous tenons à souligner que les liens de l’AIEA avec le Matenadaran sont forts depuis plusieurs décennies, mais ils se sont tout particulièrement développés et consolidés durant ces dernières années. Après la première conférence générale de l’AIEA ayant eu lieu en Arménie grâce à la superbe organisation assurée par le Matenadaran en 2014 sous la direction du regretté Hratchya Tamrazyan, ensemble nous avons mené à bien plusieurs projets et événements. Particulièrement importante a été l’organisation, en 2019 à Gandzasar (Artsakh/Karabagh), du workshop international « Armenian Eastern Parts (Artsakh, Utik): History and Culture », dont les Actes ont été rapidement publiés dans Banber Matenadarani. Nous avons également co-organisé un workshop sur « Les sciences et les savoirs en Arménie » en 2018, à Gumri (actes publiés dans OCP). Nombreuses sont les collaborations ponctuelles de nos membres avec le Matenadaran et il serait impossible de les mentionner toutes.
Ces dernières années, l’intégration de jeunes chercheurs et savants arméniens en tant que membres de l’AIEA s’est amplifiée, la plupart d’entre eux étant des collaborateurs du Matenadaran. La collaboration entre notre Association et le Matenadaran a permis de développer ce réseau, dont je n’ai pas besoin de souligner l’importance mutuelle. En signe de reconnaissance pour cette institution prestigieuse, et afin de serrer une collaboration encore plus forte, pour la première fois depuis la fondation de l’AIEA, en 2017 le Comité d’organisation a invité comme membre coopté un membre d’Arménie, à savoir Nazénie Garibian, cadre du Matenadaran et chercheuse bien connue dans le domaine de l’histoire de l’art.
Nous nous réjouissons du fait que, durant cette période transitoire, la direction du Matenadaran ait été confiée au docteur Karèn Matévosian, chercheur émérite en arménologie, auquel nous souhaitons plein succès dans son activité en lui exprimant également toute notre considération pour ses importants travaux de recherche.
Le Matenadaran est une institution d’une portée singulière, aussi bien en Arménie qu’en dehors de ses frontières. Dès sa fondation, il représenta un point d’ancrage exceptionnel pour la communauté mondiale des arménisants. Tant durant les années soviétiques que depuis l’indépendance, c’est là que s’installaient et travaillaient de nombreux brillants arménologues de différents pays, de même que des professeurs de littérature, de philologie, d’histoire, de codicologie, de sciences religieuses et des orientalistes des périodes antique, paléochrétienne ou médiévale, dont beaucoup ont occupé ou occupent des chaires dans diverses importantes universités du monde.
Nous espérons que nos liens et notre coopération avec le Matenadaran se poursuivront avec la même intensité. Nous sommes persuadés que le candidat qui sera nommé sera un savant de renom international, d’un niveau scientifique d’envergure, qui, continuant les meilleures traditions du Matenadaran, saura lui donner une impulsion exceptionnelle tant au niveau de la recherche que de la représentation du musée, et mènera à bien avec succès nos projets communs.

The AIEA Committee has learned that the current director of the Matenadaran, Dr Vahan Ter-Ghevondian, has reached the end of his tenure and that his deputy, Dr Karen Matevosian, has been appointed as interim director until the next elections.
With this letter, we would like to express our profound respect and whole-hearted gratitude to Dr Ter-Ghevondian. Under his leadership, extremely important research and cultural activities have been conducted at the Matenadaran, not to mention numerous publications, conferences, colloquia and workshops, exhibitions and other fruitful cooperations with various international institutions, including with our association. He allowed us to appreciate the richness of the projects in progress during his keynote lecture at the most recent AIEA General Conference in 2021, the text of which you will be able to read shortly in AIEA Newsletter 57.
The AIEA’s links with the Matenadaran have been strong for several decades, but they have developed and consolidated particularly in recent years. After the first AIEA General Conference took place in Armenia in 2014 thanks to the stellar organization by the Matenadaran team under the direction of the late Hratchya Tamrazyan, together we have carried out several projects and events. Of particular importance was the organization of the international workshop “Armenian Eastern Parts (Artsakh, Utik): History and Culture” in Gandzasar (Artsakh/Karabakh) in 2019, the proceedings of which were quickly published in Banber Matenadarani. We also co-organized a workshop on “Science and knowledge in Armenia” in Gyumri in 2018 (proceedings published in OCP). The number of occasional collaborations of our members with the Matenadaran are so numerous that it is simply impossible to mention them all here.
In recent years, the uptake of young Armenian researchers and scholars as members of the AIEA has increased, most of them being researchers at the Matenadaran. The collaboration between our Association and the Matenadaran has made it possible to develop this network, the mutual importance of which I cannot stress enough. As a sign of recognition of this prestigious institution, and in order to promote an even stronger collaboration, in 2017 the Steering Committee has, for the first time since the founding of the AIEA, invited as a co-opted member a researcher from Armenia, Nazénie Garibian, a senior researcher at the Matenadaran and a well-known scholar in the field of art history.
We are delighted that, during this transitional period, the direction of the Matenadaran has been entrusted to Dr Karen Matevosian, emeritus researcher in Armenian Studies, to whom we wish every success in this role and whose important research we value highly.
The Matenadaran is an institution of singular significance, both in Armenia and outside its borders. Since its foundation, it has represented an exceptional anchor point for the international community of Armenians. Both during the Soviet era and since Armenian independence, many brilliant armenologists from different countries settled and worked there, not to mention our colleagues from the fields of literature, philology, history, codicology, religious sciences and Near Eastern studies, working on the ancient, early Christian, medieval and modern periods, many of whom held or still hold professorships in various important universities around the world.
We hope that our ties and our cooperation with the Matenadaran will continue with the same intensity. Looking ahead, we are convinced that the candidate who will be appointed as the next director of the Matenadaran will be a scholar of international renown and of the highest scientific standing, who, in continuing the best traditions of the Matenadaran, will be able to give it an exceptional impetus both in terms of research and as concerns the representation of its museum, and will successfully support our joint projects.

Հայագիտական ուսումնասիրությունների միջազգային ընկերակցության (AIEA / ՀՈՒՄԸ) կոմիտեն տեղեկացավ, որ Մատենադարանի ներկայիս տնօրեն դոկտոր Վահան Տեր-Ղևոնդյանի պաշտոնավարման ժամկետն ավարտվել է և նրա տեղակալ Կարեն Մաթևոսյանը նշանակվել է տնօրենի ժամանակավոր պաշտոնակատար մինչև հաջորդ ընտրություններ։
Այս նամակով մենք ցանկանում ենք մեր խորին հարգանքն ու սրտաբուխ երախտագիտությունը հայտնել պարոն Տեր-Ղևոնդյանին։ Նրա ղեկավարության ներքո Մատենադարանում իրականացվել է չափազանց կարևոր գիտահետազոտական և մշակութային գործունեություն, հրատարակվել են բազմաթիվ գրքեր, կազմակերպվել գիտաժողովներ, աշխատաժողովներ, ցուցահանդեսներ և իրականացվել արդյունավետ համագործակցություն տարբեր միջազգային կառույցների՝ այդ թվում մեր ընկերակցության հետ։ 2021 թվականին ՀՈՒՄԸ-ի վերջին Ընդհանուր համաժողովի ընթացքում՝ իր հիմնական զեկուցման մեջ պարոն Տեր-Ղևոնդյանը մեզ ներկայացրեց ընթացիկ բազմաթիվ ծրագրերը: Զեկուցման տեքստը շուտով կարող եք կարդալ AIEA Newsletter 57-ում:
Մատենադարանի հետ ՀՈՒՄԸ-ի կապերը ամուր են եղել տասնամյակներ շարունակ, սակայն հատկապես վերջին տարիներին դրանք ավելի են ամրապնդվել և նոր թափ ստացել։ 2014 թ. տեղի ունեցավ ՀՈՒՄԸ առաջին Ընդհանուր համաժողովը Հայաստանում, որը գերազանց կազմակերպվեց շնորհիվ Մատենադարանի թիմի՝ լուսահոգի Հրաչյա Թամրազյանի ղեկավարությամբ: Դրանից հետո մենք միասին իրականացրել ենք մի շարք ծրագրեր և միջոցառումներ։ Հատկապես կարևոր էր 2019 թվականին Գանձասարում (Արցախ/Ղարաբաղ) կազմակերպված «Հայոց Արևելից կողմանք (Արցախ, Ուտիք). Պատմություն և մշակույթ» խորագրով միջազգային գիտաժողովը, որի նյութերը հրատարակվեցին «Բանբեր Մատենադարանի» հանդեսում։ 2018 թ. Գյումրիում մենք նաև համատեղ կազմակերպեցինք «Գիտությունը և գիտելիքը Հայաստանում» թեմայով աշխատաժողովը (նյութերը հրատարակվել են Orientalia Christiana periodica-ում): Մատենադարանի հետ մեր տարբեր անդամների համագործակցային ծրագրերն այնքան շատ են, որ այստեղ բոլորը նշելն ուղղակի անհնար է։
Վերջին տարիներին մեծացել է հայ երիտասարդ հետազոտողների և գիտնականների անդամակցումը ՀՈՒՄԸ-ին, որոնց մեծ մասը Մատենադարանի գիտաշխատողներ են: Մեր ընկերակցության և Մատենադարանի համագործակցությունը հնարավորություն է տվել ընդլայնել այս ցանցը, որի փոխադարձ կարևորությունն ավելորդ է նշել: Ի նշան այս հեղինակավոր հաստատության ճանաչման և էլ ավելի ամուր համագործակցության խթանման՝ 2017 թվականին Ղեկավար կոմիտեն ՀՈՒՄԸ հիմնադրումից ի վեր առաջին անգամ որպես Կոմիտեի անդամ հետազոտող է հրավիրել Հայաստանից Մատենադարանի ավագ գիտաշխատող, արվեստաբանության բնագավառում հայտնի գիտնական Նազենի Ղարիբյանին։
Մենք ուրախ ենք, որ այս անցումային փուլում Մատենադարանի ղեկավարությունը վստահվել է հայագիտության ասպարեզում վաստակաշատ գիտնական դոկտոր Կարեն Մաթևոսյանին: Նրան մաղթում ենք հաջողություն այս պաշտոնում և բարձր ենք գնահատում իր կարևոր գիտական գործունեությունը:
Մատենադարանը եզակի նշանակություն ունեցող հաստատություն է ինչպես Հայաստանում, այնպես էլ նրա սահմաններից դուրս։ Իր հիմնադրման օրվանից այն բացառիկ խարիսխ է հանդիսացել հայագետների միջազգային հանրության համար: Թե՛ խորհրդային տարիներին և թե՛ Հայաստանի անկախությունից ի վեր այնտեղ հաստատվել և աշխատել են բազմաթիվ փայլուն հայագետներ տարբեր երկրներից: Հարկ է նշել նաև գրականության, բանասիրության, պատմության, ձեռագրագիտության, կրոնագիտության և արևելագիտության ասպարեզի մեր գործընկերներին, որոնք ուսումնասիրում են վաղ քրիստոնեական, միջնադարյան և նոր դարաշրջանները, և որոնցից շատերը աշխարհի տարբեր կարևոր համալսարաններում ղեկավարել և ղեկավարում են ամբիոններ:
Հուսով ենք, որ մեր կապերն ու համագործակցությունը Մատենադարանի հետ կշարունակվեն նույն արդյունավետությամբ։ Համոզված ենք, որ հաջորդ տնօրենը կլինի միջազգային հեղինակություն վայելող հմուտ գիտնական, որը, շարունակելով Մատենադարանի լավագույն ավանդույթները, կարող է բացառիկ թափ հաղորդել նրան թե՛ հետազոտական աշխատանքներում, թե՛ թանգարանային գործունեության առումով և կշարունակի հաջողությամբ իրականացնել մեր համատեղ ծրագրերը։
