During the Matenadaran delegation’s visit to Italy, one of their goals was to strengthen and develop relationships with extensive scientific and educational institutions in natural history and medieval studies.
On April 8-9, the delegation met with several professors and heads of faculties at various universities in Italy, including Anna Sirinian, Professor of Armenology at the University of Bologna, Giorgio Piras, Head of the Faculty of Classical Philology at La Sapienza University, the largest in Europe, Marco Bais, Associate Professor of Ancient Armenian and History of Armenian Church at the Pontifical Oriental Institute, and Father David Nazar, Rector of the Pontifical Oriental Institute. They discussed various ways to collaborate, such as professional exchanges, joint publications, organization of youth summer schools, and a joint study of the manuscript heritage of Matenadaran.
The Directorate has already sent official invitations to participate in the International Armenian Studies Congress on July 19-22, where the practical implementation of the arrangements will begin.
The Pontifical Legate of Western Europe and Representative of the Armenian Church to the Holy See, Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, attended the meeting with the management of the Pontifical Oriental Institute too.
