Accompanied by Director Ara Khzmalyan, the guests toured the Matenadaran Museum, visited the Restoration and Digitisation departments, and learned about the processes involved in restoring and preserving old manuscripts.
Gilles Pecou, the President of the National Library of France, emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation after familiarising himself with the academic and scientific-technical activities of Matenadaran. Throughout their discussions, an agreement was made to develop a memorandum of cooperation. Notably, in November 2024, Ara Khzmalyan visited the National Library of France and the National School of Charters at the invitation of Charles Persona, the Director of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage of France. A primary focus of the cooperation will be the restoration of the written heritage. At the invitation of Matenadaran, employees from the National Library of France are set to participate in the seminar “THE FACES OF MEMORY” scheduled for October. This partnership will also involve mutual events and initiatives in digital technologies, particularly the application of artificial intelligence. Furthermore, the collaboration aims to implement joint academic studies and explore collections of mutual interest held at Matenadaran and the National Library of France.
