
In advance of the International Congress of Armenology, Kamo Mayilian, a businessman and representative of the Armenian community in Toronto, presented his book titled “Vigour and Grace in a Crazy World: Humanitarian Work in Talas, Turkey 1908-1923.” Mayilian is the author behind the initiative to publish revealing missionary archives and also served as the translator and publisher of the Armenian version.
Susan Orvis began her missionary work at a young age. She initially joined the American Congregational Church and the American Council of Foreign Missions. During World War I, she became involved with the Near East Relief Committee, where she helped rescue Christians who had survived the massacres in Caesarea, as well as approximately 15,000 orphaned children in Tiflis.
The Orvis archive comprises 994 documents containing 944 items, which provide detailed information about her life and activities.
